Tournament format
Eight teams are divided to two groups to play for the IIHF U18 World championship. In both groups every team plays each other once. Winner gets 3 points. If the game is undecided, 5 minutes overtime is played. Winner after overtime gets 2 points. If the game is still tied, overtime is followed by penalty shoot-out (3 series). Winner again gets 2 points, loser after overtime or penalty shoot-out is awarded with one point.
Group stage winner go directly to semi-final. Second and third teams in each group play quarterfinal games (A2 – B3 and A3 – B2). There is only one decisive match in every play-off round.
Last teams from group stages play a best-of-three play-off. Loser relegates to the Divison I.
